Omoragbon Recognized as Icon of Climate Action at COP29 Baku
Nurses Across the Borders (NABHI) is proud to announce that our President and CEO, Pastor Peters Osawaru Omoragbon, has been recognized as an “Icon of Climate Action” at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan. This distinguished award celebrates his long-standing dedication and significant contributions to addressing the critical issue of climate change.
Omoragbon’s tireless advocacy work, both in Nigeria and internationally, has focused on raising awareness about the devastating impacts of climate change, particularly its effects on vulnerable communities and public health. His leadership within NABHI has positioned the organization as a strong voice advocating for the integration of health into climate action plans.
From NABHI’s early involvement with the UNFCCC (the organization has participated for 18 of the convention’s 29 years), Omoragbon has emphasized the critical connection between environmental issues and global health, championing strategies for both climate mitigation and adaptation to protect human well-being.
This prestigious “Icon of Climate Action” award recognizes his dedication to promoting sustainable practices, empowering communities to take climate action, and driving policy changes at both the national and international levels. It’s a testament to his commitment to building a climate-resilient future, not only for Nigeria but for the world.
At the COP29 side event in Baku, Hon. Rex Anighoro, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Civic Engagements, presented the award to Omoragbon. In a moving acceptance speech, he humbly dedicated the award to God Almighty, acknowledging the higher power that guides his work and empowers him to continue serving others.
