Nurses Across the Borders signs MoU with Delta State
In a significant move to combat the growing impact of climate change in Delta State, Nurses Across the Borders International (NABHI) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). The signing ceremony took place at the prestigious UNFCCC COP28 Conference in Dubai Expo City, solidifying a collaborative partnership to develop and implement impactful climate action strategies.
The event was marked by a spirit of celebration and recognition. Olorogun Obukohwo John Nani, the Chairman of DESOPADEC, received the “Global Climate Change Advocate” award in honor of his dedicated efforts towards environmental sustainability, a commitment evident since his tenure as the state’s Commissioner for Environment.
Adding to the celebratory spirit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was recognized as the inaugural recipient of the “Climate Change Champion” award. This honor underscores his administration’s proactive approach to tackling climate change and fostering a sustainable future for Delta State.
In a heartwarming gesture, Olorogun Nani dedicated his award to immediate past Governor, Senator Arthur Okowa, acknowledging his support and foresight in prioritizing environmental sustainability. He expressed gratitude for the enabling environment that Okowa provided during his time as Commissioner, enabling him to lay the foundation for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies within the state.
Looking ahead, Olorogun Nani expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with NABHI. He emphasized that this new partnership will leverage NABHI’s expertise, international network, and community engagement strategies to further bolster Delta State’s capacity to combat the challenges of climate change.
The MoU outlines a roadmap for collaborative projects focusing on:
-
Building capacity for climate change adaptation within communities across Delta State.
-
Integrating health considerations into all climate change mitigation and adaptation policies.
-
Mobilizing resources and fostering international partnerships to strengthen climate resilience in the region.
NABHI believes that this partnership with DESOPADEC marks a turning point in Delta State’s journey towards a sustainable future. By working hand-in-hand with a leading local organization dedicated to community development, we aim to amplify the impact of climate action and ensure a healthier and more resilient future for all residents of Delta State.
