Adapting to Climate Change in Nigeria: A Health Sector Action Plan
Climate change poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s health. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and shifting disease patterns demand urgent action to protect the well-being of its population, especially the most vulnerable.
This presentation, developed with contributions from Nurses Across the Borders, SeaTrust Institute, and the African Environmental Action Network (EANet-Africa), outlines Nigeria’s Plan of Action for the Health Sector (2012-2016). It highlights:
-
The widespread negative impacts of climate change already being felt in Nigeria.
-
The specific health risks posed by climate-sensitive diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and malnutrition.
-
The need for targeted and proactive interventions, especially in rural areas with limited resources.
-
Proposed supplementary activities to strengthen adaptation efforts through technical assistance and capacity building.
